Lavenham Community Land Trust
We are a local volunteer group aiming to create affordable housing in and around the village we love. Come and have a look round our site – perhaps you’d like to join us.
Our Background
Lavenham Community Land Trust (LCLT) was formed in 2014 as a Community Benefit Society for the benefit of residents in the beautiful mediaeval village of Lavenham, Suffolk.
The LCLT aims are to:
- Provide & manage well designed, high quality and energy efficient affordable homes.
- Provide other community assets to help employment, skills and to help our community remain sustainable.
What is a Community Land Trust?
Many people find it difficult to find homes because of a lack of affordable housing. The main reasons are high house prices combined with comparatively low wages which make it hard for people to stay in their village, even though they may have grown up there and have a strong local connection.
A community land trust (CLT) is a non-profit community-led organisation that develops and stewards affordable housing and other assets that meet the needs of a community. They are run by ordinary people who want to make a difference to their local community, putting control of assets into the hands of local people.
What are the benefits?
As a not-for-profit organisation all income generated by a CLT is put back into the community through further housing or other assets. They ensure that their homes are permanently and genuinely affordable, not just for now but for every future occupier.
The first project Peek Close has now been completed and the houses are occupied
